ARTIST IN RESIDENCY

Het Wilde Weten is an independent artist initiative in Rotterdam providing artist studios, a public platform for contemporary art, culture, discussion and debate, and an Artist in Residency program.

The residency provides Dutch and International artists the opportunity develop their practice in a studio-building amongst 16 active artists. With our residency program, we aim to promote cultural exchange connecting practices from diverse backgrounds. Rotterdam has a vibrant art scene with many artist-run initiatives, galleries and exhibition spaces. A stay at Het Wilde Weten is a great way to get in touch with these networks of artists and art institutions. Our studio building is located in the heart of Rotterdam – the main museums and art venues are easily reachable on foot.

Guest Studio (live & work)
On the first floor, the guest artist of Het Wilde Weten has access to a 30 m2 studio that is furnished with a chair, loft bed, refrigerator, wardrobe and a large table. There is a private shower and a shared toilet adjacent to the studio. Downstairs is a communal kitchen; on the second floor is a coffee corner. The guest artist is provided with a bicycle and internet connection. Due to fire safety regulations we can only accept individual artists living in the building.

Project Space (work only)
We provide support for our guests in connecting them with artists, curators or other cultural agents working in their field. But, keep in mind that Het Wilde Weten isn’t an institution but an artist run space. All of its members are artists themselves, and contribute to the residency and public programs on a voluntary base. Within the first weeks upon arrival we will organise a welcome dinner where the new guest(s) artist(s) are invited to give an artist talk to introduce themselves to fellow HWW-members and the Rotterdam art scene.

Both guest artists working at Het Wilde Weten may propose a public event in the project space, which can take place upon discussion. For our guests in the residency studio, this can be scheduled based on availability, since this isn’t always possible during the residency period.

The costs of both options, the Guest Studio or the Project Space at Het Wilde Weten are €500 per month. Unfortunately Het Wilde Weten does not offer funding for our residency program. However we can provide a letter of invitation upon request in order for you to apply for funding.
