This program brings together a selection of work which questions what happens when fiction or memory become a necessity to articulate place and situate it. Whether the sense of a site has been forcefully snatched away by war, displacement or aggressive real estate development or whether the artificiality of a place locates it as devoid of history and begs for a chronology to be constructed. The videos, though very different in aesthetics and approach, all reflect in a poetical fashion on issues of ownership, narrative appropriation, and remembrance. For indeed, who owns the stories of these specific (sub)urban sites, their past and their future? And who is allowed to tell?
