9.11.2012 Debate: The Artist in Residence – a future perspective

Friday 9 November
Debate The Artist in Residence: a future perspective
Doors open: 20:00
Start: 20:30
(Language: English)

Since 2011, the Goethe Institute in collaboration with the CBK (Centre for Visual Arts) Rotterdam have been organising an artist residency programme in Dresden and Rotterdam.

The current and fourth resident is Paul Elsner, currently a guest in Rotterdam.
Both the Goethe Institute and the CBK Rotterdam thought this was a good moment to evaluate the exchange programme and to contextualise the notion of residency. What is the importance of a contemporary and lively residential environment and how important is that for the (international) art climate of Rotterdam?

The evening is moderated by Inez Boogaarts, Secretary Rotterdam Council for Arts and Culture.
Short presentations by artists Esme Valk, Paul Elsner, and Mariëlle Buitendijk about their experiences in Rotterdam and Dresden (15 minutes each, followed by a discussion with: Dr. Barbara Honrath/Goethe Institute Netherlands; Maaike Gottschal/coordinator RAIR; Ove Lucas/CBK Rotterdam; Dineke van Huizen/Kaus Australis; Simon Kentgens/Wilde Weten; and artists Paul Elsner/Dresden; Esmé Valk, Marielle Buitendijk/Rotterdam.

The public is invited to actively take part in the discussion. The discussion will be followed by a presentation of the new RAIR website.

Date: 9 November 2012. Time, 20.30 – 22.00.
Location: Wilde Weten, Robert Fruinstraat 35, Rotterdam
